The concerts premier three new pieces composed specially for the orchestra and the finalists of our new music competition about the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. To accompany this, we have some new arrangements of some whimsical piano works by Erik Satie, narrated by Angela Neff. We play a bolero and tarantella by 19th century Neapolitan composer Rafaelle Calace and, as a contrast, a Baroque aria by Vivaldi, Juditha Triumphans, with alto Twila Ehmcke. Finally we will sound the “horns” – on electric mandolin – of Aaron Copland’s Fanfare to the Common Man. Full details and tickets at www.sfmandolin.org.
