  Join us for a "week of acoustic heaven" -- the dates and instructors are now confirmed, and spaces will fill up quickly for the Seventeenth Annual Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW). It's July 15-21, 2012 and August 19-25, 2012. Produced by WUMB Radio. It's a week of instruction in voice, song-writing, fingerstyle and flatpicking guitar, blues styles, banjo, fiddle, dulcimer, sound reinforcement, music theory & singing and more.
  
  Elementary to advanced instruction available with great instructors. Evenings filled with jam sessions, concerts and folk dancing. New instructors this year will be announced at the "SAMW Reunion" on Sunday, January 8th (1-5pm) at UMass Boston. More details very soon.

  Spend an inspiring, challenging, and joyous week with others who share your passion for bluegrass! Each August we’re proud to host NImbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Workshops in Sorrento, BC–about 5 hours from Vancouver by car between Kamloops and Salmon Arm. Now in our 23nd year, we provide a friendly and noncompetitive environment for everyone from beginners to advanced players, with ample opportunity for group learning, electives, organized jam sessions, and many other spontaneous activities.
  
  There are student concerts, band scrambles, instructor concerts, campground picking sessions, and old time dances. We hear from many of our regulars that the summer music workshop is what they look forward to the most each year. We offer two separate weeks of workshops, and many of our attendees stay for both!

  The 2012 Klamath River MandoJam and workshops will be held August 23-26, at the Sandy River Ranch and Nursery.
  
  Each summer Sandy Bar Ranch hosts The Klamath River MandoJam, an opportunity for acoustic musicians of all levels and styles to learn, play, and enjoy acoustic music in a beautiful mountain setting and supportive environment. This affordable venue features a mix of daily workshops, jam sessions, demonstrations, and fun on the river.
  
  Sandy Bar Ranch is located on the Klamath River in the heart of the Six Rivers National Forest in Northern California. The Klamath River and surrounding mountains offer world-class swimming, fishing, rafting, hiking, biking and kayaking.
  
  Lodging is shared hostel style in our fully equipped riverside cabins, or you may set up your own private tent or camper. Space is limited so workshop sessions are intimate, with a good student-teacher ratio. A large lunch is served each day and participants are responsible for their own breakfast and dinner. The ranch includes a diverse 1-acre garden where they grow much of the food served at events.
  
  Gypsy-Jazz Swing, the music inspired by the rhythmic style of Django Reinhardt's famous Hot Club, has become a central theme of the MandoJam. Guest instructors and musicians will bring the tunes to life and share insights into the rhythmic and melodic technique of this timeless and exhilarating genre. This is a great opportunity for beginners to find their way into this style by learning new chord forms, progressions and melodies, and for more advanced players to broaden their repertoire and work on their chops. All levels are welcome.
  
  In addition to Gypsy-Jazz, you may hear and play anything from Folk to Bluegrass, Old-Time, Blues, Country and Originals at the MandoJam. Brad Kauder will be leading slow jam circles for beginning and intermediate level players.

  The Northside Southpaws at The Watershed below Pops For Champagne in Chicago

  The Northside Southpaws are an all-left-handed, all-resophonic mandolin/guitar duo based in Chicago who perform obsolete ragtime, archaic country, proto-grass, turn-of-the-century waltzes and other obscure string band music on lefty resonator instruments. Mandolin Magazine called their debut all-instrumental cd, STOMP GLIDE WOBBLE, "...one of the best mandolin CDs of the year, filled with an unspoiled sound and infectious enthusiasm that will win over fans from bluegrass, jazz and swing, blues and other styles." (Spring, 2008). Sing Out! magazine calls their latest cd, NO BREAD, "...just wonderful." (Spring, 2011).
