PineCone Bluegrass Camps - Raleigh, North CarolinaPineCone Bluegrass Camps
Raleigh, North Carolina
June 25-29, 2012
Building on the success and popularity of last year’s first PineCone Bluegrass Camps, PineCone and the Town of Cary are partnering again this coming summer to offer the camps for a second year!
Write and learn songs and techniques of one of North Carolina’s most popular homegrown musical styles: Bluegrass! Taught by veteran musicians Charles Pettee, Pattie Hopkins, and Lynda Dawson, this camp will build and develop musical skills while encouraging confidence, creativity, and collaboration.
Dawson and Hopkins are members of Kickin Grass; Pettee teaches and performs with a variety of groups, including The Shady Grove Band. Hopkins will teach a beginning fiddle class and an intermediate level fiddle class; Pettee will teach intermediate guitar and mandolin; Dawson will lead a songwriting class, in which students will learn tips for capturing and generating song ideas, how to express ideas through music and lyrics, and how to construct a song. Participants will brainstorm, write, revise, and construct their own songs.
Each class is limited to 12 students between the ages of 8 and 16. The camp will culminate with a special student performance with the Kickin Grass Band on Friday night, June 29, as part of Cary’s Starlight Concert Series.
We are exploring options to facilitate instrument rentals for students who don’t own instruments. More information will be available soon!
