  Recognized by The New York Times for his "exquisitely sensitive playing" and "stunning agility," GRAMMY nominated mandolinist Avi Avital will release his debut album for the Deutsche Grammophon label on June 12. The all-Bach disc features Avi's own transcriptions of concertos best known in their incarnations for harpsichord or violin as well as the Sonata in e Minor, originally for flute and basso continuo.

  In support of this release, Avi will embark on a 5-city tour performing works for both solo mandolin and mandolin with chamber ensemble.

  Mandolin Steve Gibson - Solo Gig at Blue Heaven, Key West

  Mandolin Steve Gibson has been playing mandolin for over forty years. He figures that if he keeps at it, he'll get good someday. He hopes to expand the possibilities of the mandolin the way Jimi Hendrix did for the electric guitar. As a songwriter, his fervent hope is to restore melody and intelligent lyrics to their former prominence on the airwaves, even if he has to do it himself.
  
  After over twenty years on the New England music scene as a mandolinist and songwriter, he left his cushy 50K day job to pursue his dream of a musical career in Key West, where with hard work and the usual luck one can run one's career into the ground quicker than just about anyplace else in America. Since arriving in 2002 he has played in numerous duos and bands, some of which will begrudgingly admit this. He has played in almost all of the area's most prestigious venues, including Schooner Wharf, Capt. Tony's Saloon, Sloppy Joe's, The Green Parrot, Hog's Breath Saloon, Rick's Café, Irish Kevin's, and many others. Currently he can be found playing with The Real Malloys at Schooner Wharf on Mondays, and with The Steves at White Tarpon Tiki Bar every other Friday.
  
  In a rare solo performance, Mandolin Steve Gibson will be playing at Blue Heaven Wednesday June 20 10:30 AM- 1:30 PM. This will be an abridged version of his acclaimed stage show, "Mandolin Steve Barely Remembers The Sixties," arranged for acoustic and electric mandolin.
