I need some southern hospitality. I'm heading for Bradenton, Florida for the last half of February. Can anyone point me to some Bluegrass or Old Time jam sessions in that area that I can attend while I'm there? I promise to stand on the outer edge of the circle.

Thanks.

I know of one in Tampa at the Bluegrass Parlor on Busch Blvd. Thursdays at 8, I can give you more detailed directions if you want 'em

O.T.W...If you want to drive about 30 miles north up Rte#301 to a town called Zephyerhills they have jamming in the park on Sundays...Make a left on C St and follow it to the park...I should be there each Sunday during that period of time...I don`t know how to tell you how to meet up with me but I`ll be wearing a black baseball cap with "Durham Station Bluegrass Band' on it...Hope to see you there...~til later...Willie

Hey Willie.

Good to see you're still out there in cyberspace. If I can make it to Zephyerhills I'll check out the mandolin player to see if it's you.

Hey sorry it took me so long to reply.

If you are coming from Bradenton (I believe that is south of tampa), you are going to need to get on I-75 North. Follow it until you reach the "Fowler" exit (off the top of my head, can't remember the exit number). You want to go west on Fowler.

Follow Fowler through several lights

Left on 56th

right on Busch

About one mile on the right is the "Bluegrass Parlor" THursdays 8-10.

NOTE: You have to look VERY closely to see the sign - it is in a little L-shaped plaza hidden among a laundromat, Little Caesar's, etc... It will not jump out at you. If you reach Busch Gardens you have gone too far http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey OlderThanWillie, a few years ago my wife and I stayed in Bradenton Beach, and discovered this wonderful pub The Crown and Thistle run by an outrageous Scottish couple. Any chance they have sessions?

The Crown and Thistle is no more. Now it's a place called Sharky's and they only have kareoke. Anyone visiting the Anna Maria Island/Bradenton area email me. I'd be happy to fill you in on the music scene here. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I built a sailboat (Durbeck 51') in Bradenton 1979-1980. It's my favorite spot in Florida save for the Keys. Enjoy yourself. I should think that there must be some music out in the area of Parrish. Regards

OTW - I live in Texas now but I grew up in the Largo / Indian Rocks Beach area. One website I check into every once in awhile is the Friends of Florida Folk at www.foff.org - you might find something worthwhile there. And there used to be a place called the Bluegrass Shop on Central Ave in St Petersburg. You'll have to check to see if it's still there. Have a good time and don't forget your sunscreen.
