View Full Version : Need a new fretboard
I have a 20s Regal 2-point in need of MAJOR repair(s). My trusted local luthier has suguested Frank Ford. I hope to find someone less hi-profile, yet competent. My luthier is not versed in making fingerboards and the fretting for the short mando scale. Contact me for a detailed "to do" list. Thanks.

Did you find a repairer for your mando yet. No visible replies doesn't mean you were out of luck. Dave
Dave,
It's on the way to an MC member, Don Kawelek (sp?). We've discussed the project & I am confident he's the one for it.

As a new member I contacted Don Kawalek about building octave and standard mandolins and found him to be most knowlegable and very helpful. I would suggest that anyone interested in building from a kit or from the tree, or simply seeking technical advice, to get in touch with Don, even from England. Roger Wilkin
Folks.....Don Kawalek (aka Luthier) got in touch with me & I shipped him my mando. He is through with the restorations. WAIT 'TILL YOU SEE WHAT DON HAS DONE!!!!!!!!!! More later............

dont leave us hanging..... pics, words, everything!
PhshPhan......I've got the pics Don emailed me. You want word(s)........ UNBELIEVABLE. Don (in his own words) has put the best finish on his best restoration.
Don, where are ya?????
It's a 20's 2-point mando. Beautiful aged spruce top. Abalone trim around the top ala CFM 41 style. Braz. rosewood sides/back. It has the coolest marquetry around all the binding.
I'll post pics when I get it back........I'm about to die here. It has been fun working with Don.
Check out the pick guard....

Thanks, John. It was a mess but it lives again. Out of surgery and playing well.
