On the Norman Blake & Tony Rice CD, appropriately titled Blake/Rice, they play a medley of Fiddler's Dram/Whiskey Before Breakfast. I've searched sporadically for Fiddler's Dram tab or standard notation over the last few years but struck out. I've found Give The Fiddler A Dram, but I don't think it's the same tune. Anybody know the tune or where to find it? Or do I need to get off my butt and transcribe? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
For anyone that hasn't listened to that album, Norman's mandolin playing is outstanding, as is Tony's guitar. The B part of Whiskey Before Breakfast is different than I usually hear it played... I really like it, but have a hard time playing it that way. It's also worth listening to Norman's mando accompanyment to Tony's guitar... very subtle but he lets the mando ring and it adds greatly to the piece.

This is an ABC file. ABC is a method of coveying standard notation in ascii. I understand there are tab programs which speak ABC, and as well if you can't read the above, you can paste the odd looking material into this (http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html) webform, which will output standard notation.

Hmm...I know a tune called Fiddler's Dream, recorded versions I have are Jimmy Gaudreau (Bela Fleck Record), Ray Legere. Is this the same tune? It's in G chord.

Thanks S1m0n... I don't have ABC on my work computer, but I tried the Web form link (which I'd never used) and it looks like the correct note pattern. Thanks a lot... I appreciate it. I'll make a note of JC's Tunefinder, although I can't seem to navigate to it from the link posted above right now.
AlanN, I think I've checked out Fiddler's Dream as well thinking it might just be a variation on the name, but it didn't seem to fit. I know I've got copies of it, I guess I could give it another look.
Thanks again for the help... I've wanted to find that tune since shortly after I first heard it.

Oops. The front door of the tunefinder is here (http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html).
This is a search engine for ABC files which have been posted elsewhere on the web. When I'm looking for something, that's my first stop.
ABC is most used in the celtic music community, and pretty much everything but the most obscure of that repertoire is out there somewhere.

I just checked in alltabs.com and they have 3: #1 guitar and 2 mando/fiddle. #I didn't look at them and don't know how good or right they are, but it may be worthwhile.
Different tune from Give the Fiddler... and Fiddler's Dream.
I became familiar with ABC about 6 years ago when I started attending Celtic jams... you're right... there's ton of stuff out there! I had searched places like Ceolas.org and had come up empty handed. Alltabs.com and JC's Tunefinder look like they need to find their way into my bookmarks at home!
Thanks again,
