Sorry if this is old news, but I finally got my copy of the 'Bluegrass Journey' DVD last week. Really enjoying it, but I can't help but wonder what some of you traditional bluegrass types think of it.
We've often had threads about Nickel Creek on here, but I must say I was a bit surprised at some of the other performances at Grey Fox. These include unaccompanied numbers by both Tony Rice and Jerry Douglas, which I loved but thought they seemed more 'folky' than I would have expected. The same could be said for most of Tim O'Brien's stuff. On the other hand, the 2 numbers featuring Peter Rowan were more 'bluegrassy' than I expected from him, having seen him solo in Scotland about 4 years ago.
I'm not that bothered about labelling music myself, but for something calling itself 'Bluegrass', it was much more varied than I thought it would be.
The stuff from the Bluegrass Convention, mostly in the second half of the DVD, was much more what I'd have expected.
And as for the pagan wedding???
There's obviously more to the bluegrass world than I'd realised.
