Ah....KFC Mandodebbie memories! When I was a little girl, I attended Vacation Bible School in Moose Creek, Ont. (Gee, I sort of had to... my Dad was the Presbyterian minister there in the 1970's.) Anyhow, there was a children's hymn we had to sing called " God Loves a Cheerful Giver..Give Him All You Got!" and wouldn't be just like me to change the words to "God loves a chicken dinner, give Him all you got! He loves to smell the chicken when it's roasting in the pot. And when the chicken's done you'll all hear everybody sing: 'At the Kentucky Fried Chicken in your neighbourbood, Col. Saunders" boys and girls make it finger licken good!'" And, of course, all the other kids began
to sing this new version, driving the teacher completely batty. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif (Tee hee,I just thought I'd share!)

Did you hear the one about Col. Sanders, shortly before his death had an audience with the Pope?
Seems he asked the Holy Father to change the words from "Take this bread, eat it..." to "Take this chicken, eat it..." For this biblical edit he would dontate to the churce $200,000.00. Upon hearing this John Paul said young man, that would be heresy! I cannot change the words of the bible for money! Get out of my sight!
Undaunted Harlan obtained another audience a month later with the same request for the sum of $2,000,000.00. The Pope told him that it simply could not be done and to not come to him again with this request. He then wished him a safe journey home.
Well, you guessed it, Col. Sanders gained a third audience with Pope. This time he offered $200,000,000.00 to be willed to the church upon his demise if the words "bread" in the bible are changed to "chicken" The Pope's reply was that it simply could not be done and that he should pray about it and surely he would see the error of his request. Gave him his blessing him and thanked him for coming.
The next day the Holy Father had a meeting with his head Cardinals. He announced, "Gentlemen, I have good news and bad news. The good news: we will soon be receiving a large sum of money! The bad news: we will be losing the Wonder Bread account!"

OK. Now we have two Col. Sanders records (to my knowledge on the Café). One of Mandolin's Playing Hymns and one a remix of Herb Albert tunes (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=595627&postcount=44) from this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?p=595627&highlight=Tijuana#post595627). How deep did the Col. get in the music industry?
Amazing Memorial day find (along with a Memorial Day picnic standard!) ~:>

I seem to recall reading that Bill Monroe & Colonel Sanders were quite chummy, both being Kentucky boys made good..
Could this have sparked the Colonels' interest in the mandolin ?
Imagine if he'd bought each one of those kids a July 9 '23 side-bound Loar, instead of a cheap Kay :crying: !

Just found me a copy of this classic, still sealed and unopened... any members of the Colonel's band out there in cafe land?
When I was first playing I took lessons from the guy that was in carge of the mandolin band Eugene Hall (front left) he passed away on November 4th 2009.
When I first moved to LEX 18 some years ago, there was a music store called "Good Old Boy's Music", or something like that. The good old boy himself had a Kay mandolin for sale. He said it came from the Colonel's mandolin band. Since the good old boy was quite a storyteller, I didn't pay much attention. But then again, it is not something even the good old boy could make up. Guess there might have been some truth to it.
