Frank Wakefield Mando Campover Extravaganza
3 days, 3 students and Frank Wakefield
There is an open seat at Frank's annual three day
Mando Campover Extravaganza this year. #This year's
campover is limited to three people. #Frank feels that 3 days
with only 3 students will be the most productive yet as it
will provide him the opportunity to work closely with the
smaller group of mandolineers. #In addition, Frank will include
a personal lesson each that we record on video tape and
send to the students. #The study is held here at my country
home in Northern California.
I was motivated to create the mando campover when I began
to think back on my wonderful and very fortunate experience
of studying with Kenny Baker. #Back in the 1970's and 1980's
I was one of only a few who had the opportunity to stay with Baker
at his farm in TN with the sole purpose of studying fiddle. #It was
an experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. #
Baker would get me up at 7 am and we would start on the fiddle
at 9 am. #We would stop for lunch and a little dinner, but we continued
working on the fiddle until 9 or 10 at night. # Just Baker and myself.
I learned so much that it was impossible to realize it all at the moment.
Over the years I whenever I reached a point were I was having
problems I would just think back to the many things I got from Baker. #
Those experiences continue to produce for me today.
I decided I would try my best to create a similar situation for
Frank Wakefield and the mandolin players that follow his playing.
Frank is a very kind, but effective teacher. #Then there are the stories
he tells in the process of teaching. #I knew that this experience could
end up producing the kind of memories that I had of working with
Baker all those years ago. #So, I began the Mando Campovers at
that point. #The Campover is a time where the mandolineers have
three days of study, isolated from distractions here in the country. #
This year the first two seats were purchased before we had a chance
to announced the dates. (February Sunday 20th, Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd)
This year Monday 21st is a holiday. #At this point there is one open seat.
