Hello mandolin wizards!

I have a Gibson mandobird 4 string emando. As I posted here previously I noticed that the E string is dead compared to the others. It does not have the same volume or brilliance, and especially if I am playing thru any effects pedals, the effect is not present (wah, blues driver, etc).

I have lowered the action and raised the pickup and no improvement. I have ordered a warranty replacement pickup from Gibson, but I'm not sure if that's really going to solve the problem.

So, what should I do?

What kind of alternate replacement pickup should I consider?

I have read that other people have used Seymour Duncan or Bartolini pickups. Are these bass pickups?

Does a bass pickup really do the job?

HELP!

Talk to Steve Ryder. #He makes magnetic pick-ups specially made for 4 and 5 string e-mandos.
Interesting phenomena; I wonder if the Mandobird uses a 4-pole bass pick-up and it's just not wound to handle the high frequency E string.

My good man; everything can be found on the internet. Go to www.google.com. Enter a search request under steve ryder. His website www.sjryder.com is the first hit.

String mass makes a difference, try a larger guage, alternatively, if you like the guage of string, then adjust the pickup so its much closer to the E , eh?

P.S. for Steve Rider, go to links> e-mando website> pickups and builders part of that site. or the 4&5 string electric part of the BB, Martin Stillon has a highlight for his, ie, that site.

I've got the same problem with my mandobird (now over a year old and I guess pass the warranty). How has anyone resolved this? Better pickups? How much, which ones (and how DO you change a pickuP??)

thanks...
