Does anyone know of a good setup person here in Central, IL? I live in Bloomngton/Normal and was thinking I need some adjustments. Nothing against the young people at the local music shops but I was hoping for someone with real experience and knowledge.
Thx

My son lives in the Bloomington area. Of course, he is not the one to have look at your mandolin. Of all my kids, he's the one that can't even tune a radio http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .

Terry at guitar works in chicago is great! I think it may be a little closer than St louis. Jim at hogeye is also really good. They are both technically in evanston which is a northwest suburb, but when I say Chicago, I am sure you get the idea. Hope it helps!

If you are willing to go as far as St. Louis, Joe Mendel, ("Jomando" on the Cafe') is the best mando-luthier in town, IMHO, and a great guy to deal with. I won't presume to speak for him, but he has been known to sometimes do "while you wait" setups on Saturday mornings. It is a real education just watching him work and visiting his impressive personal mando collection!

You might try Bob Applegate in Peoria, IL. #He used to own a high end guitar shop but now teaches/plays guitar and Mando (a teens gibson A I think). # An all around good guy, I am sure he would be honest and upfront with his capabilities and expertise.
Best of luck and come check out the jam at Peoria Pizza Works the second Sunday afternoon every month!
