I was so surprised...my wife, who I've blasted on here before for throwing a fit at my buying things for my "whiny" instrument, went and bought me a few mandolin items for Christmas! She suprised me with a Tone-Guard and an armrest! I fell in love with her all over again. She must have found my Elderly catalogue with things I had circled...obviously.
Anyone else get a mando related surprise on Saturday? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Amy gave me the go-ahead to buy the F9 from GC. She declined her gift as she wanted to see what she could get with holiday clearance sales. The way it looks so far is that she is claiming my/our Montana made Flatiron Festival F as her's! I think I am ok with this. At least she is not asking me to sell one! This F9 is a winner!

Got a nice plush leather Levys strap. I know, it's not a traditional mandolin strap, but I like wide ones. Also got a G7 capo for the guitar...haven't tried it on the bouzouki yet.

Peace, Mooh.

Two new CDs, Sam Bartlett's Evil Diane and Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza, and an Excel footrest for use when playing while seated. The best was my preholiday gift to myself, a 1995 Price A-5. Afforable only through working a second job. It has a few issues, but I'm liking it. The issues are all fixable.

An iRiver HP 320 HDD-style MP3 Recorder/Player, along with some accessories, from "Santa." It will replace my mini-disc for field recording of performances, jams, practices and lessons, and it will replace all the mando and fiddle CDs I carry around and use in the car and on the computer. It even has a great FM tuner! All my music and all my music-related electronic functionality will be in one small package. That is, once I figure out how it all works!!!

For xmas at my house I got two books..."Baroque Music For Mandolin" & "Music Theory For Modern Mandolin". But my big present wasn't exactly mando related but I did get a whole lot of cash to go and buy my first fiddle. So I can't wait until I get it.

Got a new mandolin! Got a brand new (Nov. 17, 2004) Alan Bibey signature Gibson. Even though it's so new, it has unbelievabale tone and volume. A year or tow of hard playing and this thing should be scary. Also, my son gave me a $50.00 gift Gift certifica from GC. Should be good for some strings or some other musical related item. I'm thinking fo using it toward a Tube Pre-amp.

I got the MelBay Encyclopedia of Celtic Music for Mandolin (or something to that affect), a tuner, and a capo from my boyfriend. I bought myself a new mandolin from Chris Baird, which should be arriving the 29th!!

My Dad and Grandma got me a new mandolin!! Its a Michael Kelly Solid and its a great little instrument. I also got a nice zip-up hardshell case and an intellitouch tuner (the kind that clips to your headstock). all in all it was a great christmas, except for the huge amount of snow (I'm in the central/east central area of Indiana).

My sister says she bought me a Brazos, oval hole a-model mandolin. I am intregued by this mandolin and wanted to buy it when she told me about it. So, I called her back toi ask her to pick it up for me, but she said, "it's already sold". Well now I now that she bought it. The only problem with this gift is that I have to go pick it up at her place. So, I won't see my Christmas present until I make it up to Pennsylvania.

I bought myself a Travelite Case for my cheapo F-style Beanblossom, and surprising my A-style Flatiron fits better. The beanblossom is a bit thicker than most F-styles. Seems like a very nice case, with velcro, metal lock, and two zippers. A analog hygro and nice storage space in the case. It is a bit larger than I expected though. Folkmusician.com had the best price.

Bought my nephew some J74s and hope to get a set from Roland White, whenever that Fake Book comes in... not sure if I ordered in time or not.:p

Oh yeah... I also gave another nephew, he plays the fiddle and just about any thing with strings, my Sweat Pea that I had laying around collecting dust. It''ll be good for him to practice on.

I splurged & bought myself a used (which thanks to fate turned into new) Weber Bitteroot OM. Wasnt sure if Id end up keeping her as Id never seen or even played one before. Was afraid it might too bluegrassy. But Ive liked the Gallatins and Hyalite Ive tried so I risked it and I absolutely loveitloveitloveit!!!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Very rich tone, lotsa sustain and volume. Can be sweet or have a bit of attitude when needed.

my wife bought me a stand for my mandolin and the Mark O'Connor 30 year retrospective CD. She also gave me a certificate for 4 hours of uninterrupted mandolin practice per week! Don't know if I buy that one with a 6 month old baby!
My father-in-law got me a gift card and t-shirt from Music Folk here in St. Louis and my mother-in-law ordered a bunch of parts for the mandolin I'm building.

My wife got me one of the CDs by Het Consort, a Dutch mandolin orchestra. Great stuff! My tastes are so esoteric, she can hardly buy me anything musical for Christmas without specific instructions. Takes away the surprise factor, but at least I know I'll like it!

Christy my wife bought me the original DGQ CD. I am pretty new to the mandolin and have read here on the cafe that this is a must have. WOW is all I can say. Most old recordings I have heard are a little crusty but this is just amazing. Also, a Sony MiniDisc recorder for my practise sessions. It has been a good Holiday.

Nikki got me a signed print of the 26th of December, Santa playing the mandolin, and framed it in barn wood. Looks beautiful front and center in the living room. Also The Marquetry and Inlay Handbook. And the best present of all is getting to live with my favorite picking partner a bass Goddess who also plays mandocello, guitar and fiddle. Lucky? You bet!

Not me, but my cousin showed me her new Weber Gallatin, tone bars, maple back. I like it a lot. Very smooth tone and the neck/frets were perfect. Very impressive.

Two Tortis picks, a bag of Wegens, a bag of Dawgs, and a bag of Dunlop 207's. I'm trying them all to see what I like but so far I like the Dawg and Tortis, depending on the tone I want. Also, 6 sets of strings (various instruments), 5 CD's (mandolin Nutcracker, BCH, Earl Scruggs, Chris Thile, Sugar Plums Xmas), and 4 Hercules instrument stands (various instruments). But best of all was the down payment for a new Red Diamond mandolin.

String_8, congrats on the down payment on the Red Diamond. I absolutly love mine! I haven't played any other mando that is better. Don is a great guy and I am sure you will love every min. of playing it. The only problem is putting the thing down. My next mando I buy will be an oval hole from Don. But who knows when that will be.

My family knew I was tryin to upgrade my old PA system for gigging. A few weeks ago I bought the new Behringer 8 channel mixer and 15" JBL PA speakers for myself and was going to pick up monitors later after Christmas because I was tapped after buying my X-mas presents.

Did Christmas at my Parents house with my daughter and they told me to go in the spare room and look.

I went in and they all chipped in and bought me the other two 12 JBL floor monitors, two Ultimate speaker stands and a SM-58 mic with 20' cord.

I was blown away, I am lucky to have such a family as mine! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I got a Weber Hyalite Custom. Maple Back/sides and neck, faded leather stained, full gloss.

I sold a LesPaul a year ago. I haven't used it for years. When mandolin fever hit me, I took the LP money and went shopping. My wife told me I had to make it my Christmas present. So I had to wait a month to enjoy it! A long month, for sure. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .... Dave

Wow, how fortunate you all were...
Mrs. Mandohack thinks I spend too much time practicing the mandolin, so she got me the first 3 season "Seinfeld" DVD sets.
She insists I get a little more television in my life...
