Hi, does anyone know of a clamp on type pick-guard. I'm thinking something that attaches the way a clamp-on arm rest does or something like that. Thanks

The Gibsons like my '21 As came with a latching one [pat. july 4 1911 ] then they started to screw them into the top edge and kerfed side liner, with a small bracket.
violin makers parts house can supply the metal parts since it is how chinrests get mounted on them.
woodshop tools available? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I see a variety of widths are made for the chinrest clamps threaded sections, depending upon whether the player wants the chin cup over the tailpiece, or off to the side.

kurtwestphal,
Do you want a clamp-on style to avoid having to drill a hole into the side of the mando? I would think that a clamp-on would still require the guard to be attached to the side of the neck. I installed a smaller F-style pickguard recently and was pleased with how secure it stays attached being the it's just the 2 pins holding it. I prefer the look of the smaller pickguard and find that it is as functional.

I remember a thread a long time ago that showed off a clamp-on pickguard that Bill Bussman (Old Wave Mandolins) did for one of his customers. It looked nice. You might contact him.

having the carpenters jack scheme and pickguard outer-edge support in the same part pops into my thoughts.
I supose it's still going to need the pin or pins to connect pickguard tip to the fretboard edge . http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

That would be mine. I will probably end up having a local luthier put some pins in it. It was a cool experiment, but the pickguard keeps slowly slipping off. It's got to do with the recurve, the clamp, and a large piece of ebony hanging way out over the body from the clamping site. Bill did a sweet job with creating what I asked for, though! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Sorry to resurrect this, but I just noticed in the Gilchrist thread, in the "post a photo of your mandolin" section, the Classical model seems to have a clamp-on pick-guard described by sternArt as cam clamp pickguard bracket. Does anyone have any other info on this? #-Thanks
