Heard through some reliable sources that Paul and his family were recently involved in a serious accident. Assume it's an automobile collision. He's apparently in fairly serious condition. Anyone know about this? A great guy, great mandolin player, great human. Let's keep he and his family in our thoughts. Try to find out what I can today.

Had an email from Betty Elders who is maintaing the page above on Paul & family condition/updates. Apparently the baby is doing quite well in spite of being delivered two months early. Everyone else expected to make a full recovery although Paul is still in pretty serious shape. Long road ahead.

I just got back from visiting Paul at the hospital and the family at the house. #
I'm very pleased to report that Paul is off the ventilator and is expected to be moved out of intensive care tomorrow. #Paul will be dealing with a good amount of pain and is pretty tired. #However, we did have a nice conversation and he is in good spirits - particularly since his family is all going to be o.k.
So far, Paul hasn't been his baby boy yet since they don't let babies in ICU. So, hopefully he'll be able to see 'Julien Crash Glasse', who is doing well, soon....

I emailed Betty at the update site (http://www.bettyelders.com/PaulGlasse.htm) and she said she was printing off and saving all of the get well wishes. Possibly Joel can help out there and of course if I hear anything about a fund-raiser or anything similar I'll be sure to share that with everyone.

Easiest way to get a message to Paul is to visit Betty Elders' site and send an email to her. #She's collecting messages for Paul.
If you want to mail something, contact me offlist (joelh@hyoshi.com) and I'll give you my snail mail address . #I'd be more than happy to drop off any mail, but for privacy reasons I don't want to give out Paul's contact info online.
There has been a little preliminary talk about organizing a benefit. #Nothing decided yet to my knowledge, but I'll repost if there is any additional news on that front.
Thanks,

Here's the latest news on Paul. #He's now in a rehab hospital working on recovery. #He's walking around with a walker. Also, they're letting him walk with a cane when supervised. #From my perspective, he's making great progress. He is in good spirits and we had a good chat when I visited today. #
Paul says that the right wrist is feeling better and he's optimistic that his mando picking won't be inhibited once that (and everything else) heals a bit more.
Though Paul doesn't have internet access right now, he's received and read print outs of his email inbox including many best wishes from Mandolincafe.com readers. #He's very appreciative and I'm sure he'll be online and catching up within a couple of weeks.

Hey folks, friends of Paul and family have set up a PayPal account in their name to assist the family in rehab and all of the other miscellaneous expenses. See the Cafe home page (http://www.mandolincafe.com) for all of the details/links, etc. I hope everyone will consider supporting this. I sent them $100 this morning. Suspect the wallets are hurting a tad from the holidays but just think how worse off you could be--like being involved in an accident like this. Off my soap box.

A few #friends have joined together #to organize a benefit for the Paul Glasse family . #They were in a terrible car wreck Thanksgiving weekend — a person driving a large pickup truck crashed into them going 40 miles an hour. #Paul absorbed most of the impact. #Their car was totalled. #Nine had to have an emergency C-section and is still recovering from a fractured pelvis, consequently baby Julien was 2 months early and in the neo-natal unit at Brackenridge for several weeks. #Their 3-yr old daughter Marielle had a fractured wrist which healed within a few weeks. #Paul had multiple fractures of nearly all his ribs, both lungs were punctured, an artery was severed, and he had a broken pelvis, broken clavicle, broken wrist, etc. If the accident hadn’t happened within a few blocks of Brackenridge Hospital Paul probably would not have survived. #Paul was in intensive care for about 10 days, in regular hospital care and then in a rehabilitation for a total hospital stay of about a month. #They’ll all be fine, and recently Paul was able to return to work and to playing the mandolin. ###Even though they have insurance their medical bills are astronomical.
Please join us for the music show described below. #If you can’t come please send a gift anyway. #You can make your check to Paul Glasse, and mail it to:
