Joseph Campanella Cleary visited Idaho on a cross country drive recently and met up at my shop with Chip Booth, Fletcher Brock and me. It was great to see him and see his great 2 point mandolin.

Sorry for all the posts, we are having trouble getting the new attachment system to work properly...

This was a fun morning. We all met at Lawrence's shop. I had not had the chance to meet Joe or play one of his instruments but I always enjoy seeing the pictures of his unique work. I can now say they sound every bit as good as they look! He had a Due 2 point model with him, and it is a strong instrument, dry and woody with a lot of punch, especially from the listener's point of view. The sound was much more like a traditional F hole mandolin than I expected.

Lawrence has just completed a batch of guitars, something he rarely does, so we enjoyed trying out all five of them as well. They include his own large bodied design, a strong D18 style guitar and two particularly successful single O style guitars.

Fletcher has aslo just finished a flattop guitar, his first in a long time also. It is a J45 style with extra body depth and custom bracing built for Eli West, and it turned out great! It can be seen touring with Eli and Cahalen Morrison in Europe right now. Eli took it with him just a couple of days after completion of the instrument.

Never having met any of the fine gentlemen pictured, can you please identify them, left to right, for me? Thanks.

Can't wait to hear that one! It's great to see these guys building some flattop guitars. It must be a nice break from F-style mandolins, eh? :)
