I have a nice '22 A2 that need the upper 7 fret re-replaced because the last person to do it used a very different fret size. The other frets are original and, of course, tiny. The smallest size offered by Stewmac, will it work? Or do I need to find something else? Anyone have that tiny fret anymore?

The Stewmac stuff will work. It's not exactly the same, but it takes a close look to see the difference once it's installed. Dan B. had some replica wire that matched the 20s frets, but I think it was a limited run and I don't think it's available anymore. There is SS wire available in a very-close-to-replica shape and size if you and/or your customer don't mind using SS wire in the same neck as the originals.

Check with Roger. I have a lot of small SS that I'm not going to use if you're interested.

If I were you, I'd refret the whole board in matching frets, preferably a little larger than the originals. Have a look around the lower end of this chart (http://www.lutherie.net/fret.chart.html). That small SS Gail mentions is probably the Jescar 39040.

Agree Paul and yes that's the SS wire I have. Roger also sells the regular nickel-steel in the small vintage size, maybe not exact but very close.

There is a seller called Bezdez on Ebay that has fretwire that might fit.

Thanks everyone. The owner really doesn't want to do the whole board so I'll checkout the ebay guy too. Gail thanks, I'll PM you if I need it. Thanks again.

I just realized that those specs can't possibly be right—think about it, a wire that's half again as tall as it is wide?—so I checked the four wires Bezdez lists and none of them are even close to that, or to anything like original Gibson wire.

Sorry .015h x .038w is what I got from them as medium. I did a partial recently on a KM600 it was perfect.

Eh? .015" high? That's absurdly low, even the original Gibson wire was .032" tall. The KM-600 is a Saga product, and their wires are all listed in my chart. They have nothing that low.
