I will have more info real soon,

Why not in Northern Va?

Gordon -

Were the number of potential attendees great enough to justify two gatherings - one in N. Va and one in DC/MD?

fatt-dad
Nov-15-2004, 9:53am
I guess fatt-dad would be a potential attendee, but would first need to know when the event is scheduled.

staying tuned. . . .

Northern Va....dy.

EastmanGordon
Nov-15-2004, 1:19pm
I am going to call the guys at Jamming Java in Vienna to see if that would be a possibility. I don't think we have enough takers yet to do it in both MD an VA. Maybe we should just make this a monthly get together of mando players and do it in other places too. Sounds like a pleasant way to spend an evening every month.
Hope to have some news soon,
Gordon

EastmanGordon,

I think the folks in Dallas-Fort Worth would really like to sample your wares. How about having a tasting somewhere here abouts? I am certainly impressed with reviews I have heard, and the instruments I have seen on line.

Hi All, If you could do this at Jammin' Java you can count me in. I'd like to try an Eastman.

Jammin' Java does indeed rock! That would be a terrific place to gather and I sure would be there with my honey in tow.

Talked to Daniel at Jammin Java today and he has offered us the use of the upstairs room pretty much whenever we want it. I was thinking that we could hold it on a Tuesday or Wednesday but I'm totally flexible. Anyone with any strong opinions on how we should do this and when, now is the time to chip in.
This is going to be really cool.
Gordon
PS. perhaps we should consider doing this on a regular basis culminating in a mandolincafe listmeet picnic next summer. Ahhhh.... sounds lovely doesn't it?

If you want to "taste" here in Indianapolis I currently have 2 Eastman mandolins in stock, a MD605 (A style) and a MD615 (F style). #They both sound great!

Robert -

Since he already suggested doing this at a variety of locations around the DC metro area, do you know of a specific place that would be suitable closer in?

Gordon-

Since the initial concept was to be able to try the Eastman mandolins, I'd suggest you just pick a time that works for you. #Especially since you are talking about doing these on a recurring basis, I wouldn't worry too much about getting something that works for everyone. #Just announce it a little ahead so the ones who have to make travel plans can adjust.

Nov-17-2004, 6:22am
In addition to the other sites mentioins, future locations might consider other music friendly locations. In Maryland these include; Sam & Elsie's (Laurel), Ram's Head (Annapolis), Cactus Flats (Frederick) and the Friendly Inn (West Friendship/Ellicot City). Also perhaps the Tiffany Tevern in Alexandria.

Sounds great. Thanks for doing this. Since you are going to all the effort, my two cents is just do it where and when it works for you. Let us know the time and date and I'll be there!

I hear you, Onesound, but I have a counterpoint. I live in St. Louis and travel to DC Mon-Fri. So I hope he has it during the week. Personally, I'd gladly drive 2 hours and back to be at an event like this on a week night. But it's his show and he should have it whenever and wherever he wants to. I would just like to see more manufacturers do this more often, in more places.

I should have an answer for you all today!

I am afraid that it's going to have to be on a weekday evening since that's the only time they will let us have the room.

More info as soon as I get it.
Gordon
ps. I am working on an idea where we might sponsor something similar in other cities using our dealers. I know there are several dealers out there that would love to facilitate this.

Good news and bad news!

Bad news first, I am back from my vacation in Nashville and I'm back at work again which means that I will be able to get around to answering all your outstanding questions.

Now for the good news!!!!

Mandolincafe Listmeet sponsored by Eastman Strings will take place at:

FLANAGAN'S IRISH PUB

7637 Old Georgetown Road
Bethesda, MD 20814

Phone: (301) 986-1007

On Monday December 13th. at 7:00pm.

They are delighted to have us and they will allow us to make as much noise and chaos as we like. #Everyone is welcome, please bring along your mandos to show off, I will have a selection of Eastmans for you all to try. Someone asked about fiddles also so I will bring a couple of those as well. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Gosh, I am so glad that at least someone is coming.
We were supposed to have a container with the latest and greatest mandos here by this point but it has been delayed which means that my choice of what to bring will be just a little limited but there will be some nice stuff there. Someone here suggested that we plan on doing this again in mid January when I will have all the instruments on hand that will be exhibited at the NAMM Show which will allow you all to have the first look at them. If things go well I will book Flanagan's again and maybe we can make this a regular mando get together.
Name tags can be arranged..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'm going to try to make it. #I've never been to that area, anyone have any info on metro or parking options? #

If this becomes a regular event I'd like to see it other parts of the DC metro area.

Is anyone bringing a BRW? #I will bring a Freshwater octave if I get it back from the shop where I have it for a new tailpiece and setup.

Looks like about three long blocis from the Bethesda Metro station. Map it on MSN and you will see the metro station a little SSE of the location.

Hope to see you there.

Well, the boss said "that sounds like a boatlaod of fun, of course you can go." That's why I married her!

I'll have my Breedlove KF in tow although I'm still a very beginning mando player...I could also bring my guitar which I'm a bit better at if anyone thinks it's a good idea.. if we just want to stick to mando's that's fine too, I'll leave it home...

EastmanGordon
Dec-08-2004, 8:24am
I'm going to be bringing some guitars whether they are welcome or not!

I think that most of "The Druthers" will be there (that's the band I play in) so we can get a jam going and we can get a feel for how things sound in a band situation.
Gordon
ps. I think that arriving after 9 will be considered acceptable although you might miss the trapeze act that we are flying in as a warm up. Also, you may be a beer or two behind us all.

So I'll bring the guitar as well! BTW, when we first started talking about this Gordon, you and I were going to meet at the Brickskellar for a pint'r2...so while I was a little sad to see it wasn't the Brick, lo and behold my company xmas party is going to be at the Brick the very same week we're doing this...

Someone emailed me offline and asked if we were going to be offering any of the mandolins that we are bringing for sale.
As you know, we are the manufacturer and as such we will not sell anything except through one of our recognised dealers. Our good friend (and incidentally the person that first told me to check out mandocafe) Steve Perry of Gianna Viloins has stepped up to the plate to sponsor the event so it will be possible to purchase stuff through him on Monday or later on through his store in Tennessee. Let me reiterate that this is not meant to be a selling experience, we will be there to show off our stuff. If you should fall in love by accident then Steve will be able to arrange the marriage for you, that's all.
Looking forward to meeting everyone,
Gordon

Well, I'll certainly be there, at least for the first hour or so. I'm psyched to try some of those oval holes and archtop guitars -- hopefully I'll have a new mando of my own to show off as well.

FYI, the pub is only a 2 minute walk from the Bethesda Metro. Go up both sets of escalators, down the steps, turn left, and walk a couple of blocks. It's across the street.

Many thanks to Gordon for scheduling this at a place that's only 10 minutes' walk from my house http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I posted something similiar in the Guitar Center - Gibson thread but since this thread has a regional link...

I asked at the Fairfax GC if they had any Gibson mandolins. #They said no but checked the system and the Seven Corners store (Falls Church) had an A9 listed for $999.

You're right and you know, this is probably the worst batch of abductees we have ever had. All they do is whine and complain and the whip doesn't help at all. They go on all day about radiusing fingerboards and varnish finishes and no matter how much I beat them they still complain about there not being a pocket in the damn case. I am at my wits end, is there anyone out there that will take them off my hands? I'll pay for the shipping.
