I've played a lot of mandos lately, and in the end, the best bang for the buck for me is a sweet Breedlove Quartz KF (sunburst!) I have just put on layaway. When I pick it up next week, I plan to play part of my humble cofee house set with this fine mandolin. What's the most natural, least intrusive, internal mando pickup I should get installed?

Your key words were "Most natural, least intrusive, internal. In my opinion, based on the key words, that would be a small microphone. Something in the Audio Technica A-35 or Joe Mill, or the Crown E-100. For another option in a non microphone pickup consider the McIntyre Feather or the K&K which I have had great luck with. Kenc

Breedlove puts the McIntyre Feather in the mandolins they sell with a pickup, so that may have some relevance to your choice. There's one in mine, but I never use it, so I can't give you any personal feedback. (Get it - "feedback"? I kill myself.)

I hadn't heard of Joe Mills before:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Schertler! They're pricey but they are the most natural sounding pickups and have less tendency to feed back than any others.
