I would like to see a picture of Barry's mandolin. Does anyone know where I can find some?

Best I can find is this:

It links to a larger version (about 1/2 of the mandolin is visible) here (http://klezmermountainboys.com/downloads/may-2004.jpg).

I believe its a 1941..I played it a few times back in the 80's..back when Skyline would cross thru this area...

Back when he was in Peter Rowan, Tex Logan and the Green Grass Gringoes, Rowan would introduce him as "Barry Mandolin on the Mitterhoff".

Never really got into Skyline, but they had good musicians - Barry, Trischka and Larry Cohen, the best electric bass player I've ever played with.

97390--F5 Mandolin, Fleur-De-Lis, neck joins body at 16th fret (16th fret is at the crosspiece), stamp no. 4091-G 2.
1941. I'd have to scan my pics

The crosspiece is actually at 15 1/2. I will take a closeup next time I see him. He's just starting Hot Tuna tour. Here's one with Barry and his mando +me.

Re Skyline electric bass player Larry Cohen: He still plays with Barry, in the group 'Silk City'. I am also fortunate to say that Larry is a member of my band, 'Fred's Mobile Homes'. He is a fabulous player, and teaches bass and piano in the Philadelphia area.

I wonder if the Bigsby will be played w/ electric Hot Tuna? I saw an acoustic trio concert a few months back (Jack, Jorma & Barry) & heard he would be on an upcoming electric tour. I wondered if that meant he'd use the Gibson w/ pickup, or if he had an e-mando.

... And being the busy guy that he is, Larry also has played in my band "Out To Lunch" (http://out2lunch.lunarpages.com) for the past 15 years or so and what an amazing treat it's been! With chops like his, all the rest of us need to do is stand behind our instruments and (try to) look good. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

have a look at 1933 F5 #91308 here.

The crosspiece binding is really at about the 15 and a half fret. The angle makes it look more like 1/3, but it is really 1/2 or more.

Yep. Being that Jack is endorsed by Epiphone...... You can figure the rest. It must be a bit difficult going from the fat '42 Gibson neck to the very thin mandobird. For the 2 years Barry has been playing with Jorma he said he never seen him pick up an electric guitar until he went out there for a rehearsal. Too bad I wil be on a cruise during this tour, unless I go to Albany the sunday night I come back, get home by 2am go to work on monday. -or not go to work.
