My experience with the Brekke bridge has been very good. My first mandolin was a Kentucky 250S which sounded like a tin can prior to installing the Brekke; this bridge helped bring some warmth to this instrument. I also installed one on a '92 Flatiron F5 Artist and it made a great mandolin greater. One came on my '99 weber Beartooth and I tried the "Traditional" Brekke on it, but it robbed the fine tonal character of this mandolin, so I went back to the "Original" Brekke bridge. Bear in mind that the only instrument of the three with tone bars was the Kentucky and I had positive results all around. Since I have heard opposite results, I am convinced that your individual instrument will have to be judged with and without the Brekke bridge; only your ears can decide!

Vern Brekke (really nice guy!)sold me his 1995 F-5 Flatiron made in Bozeman a while back because it had been sitting around for a while and he mostly plays oval hole mandos.

It came with a traditional Brekke bridge. I had been playing a 1995 Flatiron A style mando at the time , same series same everything except one mando was an F and the other an A style.

Of course I A/B'd the two mando and the F-5 with the trad. Brekke bridge was noticibly louder and higher pitched.

I decided to keep it on with no regrets.

Also the tradition Brekke bride you can adjust action under full tension. I have the baby adjusted to where it plays like butter.
