Heard a story on NPR driving into work today on Burgoo, a tradition in Kentucky still going strong by mostly Catholic churches and this ages-old recipe of mutton, chicken, and even some squirrel meat!

The story was interesting, but what made it for me was the music running under the story the entire time - old Mr. Bill Monroe, with songs like "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and "Kentucky Waltz" (live version). Now that makes for a nice commute! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Burgoo used to be the meal of choice amongst sailers of the deep blue sea. If you've ever read any Tristan Jones books you'll quickly find out that if you have to you can eat it every day for months. I prefer a little variety but I suppose I could play the Sailors Hornpipe every day and not get tired of it.

As a kid (many years ago) one of my dad's best friends went to a Burgoo every year. Since his name was Burl McGlasson, I always assumed it was a Scottish tradition.
