I had forgotten what a great tune this is. A fellow board member turned me onto a live show by The Country Store and they did this one. Jimmy Gaudreau on lead vocals and it's a wiener.

I believe originally recorded by C/W artist Don Gibson - maybe written by him..., he could do THAT too. RIP Don Gibson http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sea of Heartbreak was written by Don Gibson, and makes a good bluegrass song. The live show AlanN mentions came from a tape I made when the Country Store played at the college coffeehouse I ran in the 70s - I would be happy to pass a copy on to anyone who will supply me with a live performance CD, even themselves (I assume no one sends a recording of themselves playing badly).
Right you are once again your royal Mooseness with the exception of the writing credit. That belongs to Paul Hampton and Hal David if I'm not mistaken. The classic country station I listen to plays that one quite a bit and it's mighty fine tune if I do say so myself. In addition to Don Gibson I've heard versions by none other than the man in black (RIP Johnny) and here lately Jimmy Buffet and George Straight gave it a go. I've also heard a local BG band do a pretty good version of it.

Did Jimmy take a solo on the tune? If he did I'll bet he burned it up!
mrbook: Thank you for the "heads-up" - Don Gibson..; GREAT talent! - a tragic life!. I understand in his "later" years he was able to get the peace and stability he so deserved. I have a very ancient album simply titled "Dottie and Don"... Dottie West and Don Gibson!! - The only time - that I know of - they recorded together. Two GIANT - and tourtured talents together on one album. To me personally..., it's PRICELESS!!! (IMHO). ** (p.s. Steve Wariner(sp.) who Dottie "found' and helped get started.., worked in her band for a time ; he said he would "...sing the Don Gibson part on her road shows" ; he also said "...THAT was big shoes to fill..") Thanks again guys for the "memory jog' - http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That song was in the top 10 of pop music when it came out. I'm guessing 1958.
GBG ; I think you are correct - if not.., very close. (I was 4 years old then....) - Don Gibson : "I Can't Stop Loving You"... ; Sensusius Woman"... ; "Oh, Lonesome Me"... ; "Sea of Heartbreak"... ; "Legend in my Time"... what else!!?? RIP DON GIBSON. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
