The only Stan Miller mando I've heard is by Jody Stecher..an A style. It looks great and sounds great (but I wouldn't be surprised is Jody will make any mando great). What i've heard is he's become an successful accountant and may eventually get back to building mandolins again. So who can provide an actual description compared to other mandolins, and what prices are they fetching these days?

i played a couple of millers in the 80's. one was a rosewood-bodied F, which was a very warm sounding mandolin.
i saw an ebony-bodied F, but didn't get to play it. the one that really stands out was an A style that was at the folkstore in seattle in the 80's. it just knocked everybody out that played it. it was also a very beautifully proportioned mandolin.
there was a maple-bodied F on ebay a few months ago. i think that the opening bid was $3500, and nobody bid on it. john

There's quite a bit of Stan Miller info here (http://home.comcast.net/~ukecat/mandolin/mandos11.html), including pictures of some instruments and a bio...

I remember John Reischmann played a Miller before he got the Loar in '78 or so....
Sounded great, but I think any mando he picks up sounds pretty good.

Tom Bekany plays a Miller to this day, I think....

I've seen quite a few Millers over the years, and they are usually fine sounding mandolins with good workmanship.

Love to hear whether or not Stan is getting back into building.
I haven't seen him in years and years, but if you see this Stan, drop me a line and I'll send you a stash of nice old wood that has your name written all over it, and it's on the house...

Hubert-
Don't worry about a Miller, your Nugget is mando enough.
