"Little River Stomp" by the Buckhannon Brothers: All instrumental old-time music using a teens A-4 as the lead instrument all the way through. Great stuff! Available at the link:

Any mando work by Jody Strecher, who plays mando with the group Perfect Strangers. He also has solo stuff out, but some of it is on guitar. He plays a custom-built A-5 that produces incredible tone.

Yeah, all Tim O'brien. His Nugget A is only #2 - apparently he got it for helping Mike Kemnitzer to move into his new house. Mike, if you're out there, I'll fly out and give you a hand anytime. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think dy you may need to distinguish between A style oval hole and F hole as to what you are looking for. Most of the players noted above play the oval hole but Tim O'Brian plays an F hole A style which in his hands has it's own unique sound but is closer to a F style in sound than the others. This month's Mandolin Magazine has a feature article on Peter Ostrouhsko who plays a round hole A style quite well.

Lou Martin's Rounder album "Recent Work" (if you can dig up a copy). Some great originals on that project.....he used a Monteleone style "B" (A-body shape).

I'll second Red Rector (http://www.btinternet.com/~john.baldry/mando/rector.html)...

"Norman Blake and Red Rector" is a classic recording, and just reeks of A model...

Peter Ostroushko abandoned the F-style in favor of an A-Style, oval hole in 1990. You can check out his reasons for this decision in this mandozine question and answer session:

Gee, you don't see Lou Martin's name too often. A shame, he's an influential mando guy from the past. And he had one of the greatest lines about Bill Monroe. Lou was dissecting Old Ebeneezer Scrooge, one of those quirky Monroe tunes, with its starts and stops, etc. and Lou wrote something like "...one can hear the patriarchal/matriarchal musical motifs in Bill's playing during this, his levitical mode of bluegrass mandolin..."

I wonder if Big Mon saw it that way http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Yeah, Lou's Monteleone A-model is the first Monty I ever got to play. Very, very, nice mandolin! I think that was at Winterhawk.

Ira Louvin....was way ahead of his time...he played some great stuff....Paul Williams with Jimmy "By Gawd" Martin played some what is now considered historical recordings.
