Does anyone know where, other than eBay, I might be able to buy an old Gibson tailpiece cover, from the teens/20s/30s?
If anyone has an extra they'd be willing to sell, please email me...
Thanks!

Brian, Hold on to your wallet as "OLD" Gibson tailpiece covers from the teens go for as much as $250 with the base and I think you can pretty much forget about getting one without the base. There are no aftermarket copies that I'm aware of. Kenc

I just bought one here for $49.00. Not bad, looks just like the real ones but it is very shinny and needs some artificial aging.

Thanks for the replies, guys...
I guess I'll fess up...I have an A9, and I thought I might try and enhance its "old" appearance by getting one of the older covers. (I have always thought that they were nice looking, what with the fine script and all...) Kind of the cool A9/F9 upgrade, in my opinion.
Incidentally, my A9 has a silver matte-finish (non-shiny) tailpiece cover with "Gibson" etched into it with what looks like a rotary inscribing tool. I think it looks cheesy. I believe the newer A9s come with the shiny "The Gibson" cover, which I much prefer. I suppose I could order the new old-style cover from Greg Boyd...
(Unless Charlie wanted to send one to a happy A9 customer? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif )
Thanks,
Brian

I would receommend the tailpiece pictured above from Greg Boyd. #It is an affordable reproduction that looks pretty good on an original mandolin, and is not out of place on a new one #I have original covers like you inquired about, however I don't part with them unless they are going on an original mandolin. #I also do Loar reproduction tailpices - hand engraved siver plated

Wouldnt be old, but couldnt you get one spare parts from gibson?
Skin chemistry patinas nickle rather promptly.
FWIW: ebony veneer on the cover looks great.
I see frank wakefield (in the video clip) got a flowerpot inlaid on the ebony face on his tailpiece cover .
