Brief note to welcome Ted (mandohack) as the Moderator of the General Mandolin Discussions and Looking for information about mandolins. What's that mean? Means I think he's a voice of reason, understands the purpose and idea behind this crazy place, and that he has been handed a few of the keys to runnning the place.
Ted, as you are aware, hosts the cool site jazzmando.com (http://www.jazzmando.com), is writing a book on jazz mandolin, co-owns four music stores among other things. As an all-around cool head, father, employer, and mandolin nut (always properly balanced on the verge of too many mandolins) he has all of the qualities I wanted in someone to help run this joint.
Despite my pleas that he not take this on, he has decided to nevertheless so I welcome his support. Just kidding about my plea--sort of. Thanks, Ted.

Hmmm...should we cook up another Gibson thread as part of an initiation? I hate to say it, but I love the controversial threads; it's kind of like reading the tabloids!
good luck my friend... hopefully not too much work needed!

Why not both? We can start a thread with a topic something like "Dixie Chicks' Home is a great Bluegrass CD". That one could get ugly on so many different levels! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Well that just $*%&#)@ #great!

Good move Scott. Things seemed to get too stressed for just you. Now you can both share the Excedrin.......

Thank you all for the vote of confidence. This has been an interesting time to jump on board, and "incident-rich" weekend, to say the least...
I've really come to appreciate what it is that Scott and Dan do. Imagine leaving a sports stadium, with all the fan "residue," spills, wrappers, chewing gum, (and bodily fluids). Someone behind the scenes "invisibly" cleans all this so that at the next game, the facilities are pristine and ready for action. You never see all the work that goes on to make this happen, only when things don't go perfectly.
I myself, have enjoyed the unsullied resources at the M.C. for over five years, and appreciate its contributions now than ever. That controversy, personality conflicts, let alone legal offenses are kept at a minimum is nothing less than miraculous. The thankless efforts to make this happen to our communal benefit are quite noteworthy, though more often than not, very much under the radar.
Though a few bad apples inevitably slip into the barrel (those who confuse "Freedom of Speech" with "License to Trash the Hosts' Guestroom"), I'm proud of the overwhelming majority of people within this cyber-community that only want the best for each other. People willing give of themselves, advice, humor, or just share a little zeal and joy over new mando discovery and "addiction fuel." I also thank those of you who have recently sent private message of support and encouragement, and fully understand the indispensability of politeness, tact, and civility.
As you were...

Well, I'll be...I'm part of a cyber-community! Cool beans. But like Groucho, I never wanted to be a member of a club that would have me for a member. But a cyber-community? That's different. And did I really read the word "indispensability" above. Wow, I'm not quite sure what you said "Deputy Dawg" but you shore 'nuf sed it purdy.
Congats and best wishes.

Ted's willingness to take this on in full knowledge of the time and effort it will take is a timely reminder of what a great community the cafe is. Although we've had our moments, the inclination of people to step up in a constructive way far surpasses the tendency for people to stir up trouble. A big thanks to Ted, Scott, Dan, and all the members of this community who respect each other and the value of this forum.
