If you haven't you should really check out both Walk On and Crossing Muddy Waters by John Hiatt. It features awesome roots rock mando playing by David Immergluck who plays with the Counting Crows. I love the playing on these albums its really the sound I strive for. Anyone have recommendations of similar playing?

I remember seeing them in concert in 1997. John Hiatt says, "The mandolin sounds so good we are going to let him start this off by himself." They played "Cry Love".
I like Steve Earl's intro to "Copperhead Road". I think there are extended versions on some of his live albums.
Even though the mando player from The Greencards can play great solos, he is more than willing to keep a song going with great rhythm chops.

Here is a great live version of cry love...its funny how musical preference changes I remember dismissing my dads john hiatt albums in my premandolin/roots music days (I guess I was like 14). I also remember buying him a Steve Earle album for Christmas and not really getting it but now it is one of my favorites!
