Sam Bush performed last night in Sarasota with his 4 piece band (guitar, drums, bass, and Sam). They played for an hour, opening up for Donna the Buffalo. They did a few tunes off his new cd, "King of My World," along with a bunch of well known stuff. There were about 750 people in the audience.
Sam played great, sounded great, dedicated a number to his wife of 20 years (yesterday was their anniversary) and seemed to be having a ball.
After his set and before Donna went on I was roaming around the outside of the venue and happened to run into Sam at the stage door. We chatted for a few minutes - I asked him about the tuning on his resonator mando (DADA) that he plays with a slide, and related topics. Nice guy, relaxed, and apparently spends a lot of time in Sarasota for baseball spring training. Hope he comes back soon for some more great gigs!
Donna the Buffalo was great, too, and this weekend they'll be performing at the Magmusic fest in Live Oak, FL. Other acts include Vassar Clements, David Gans, Crazy Fingers, Josh Pinkham, etc. The only bummer was that Sam didn't perform any numbers w/ Donna.
