Can anyone recommend a good website / book describing the anatomy of a mandolin? A lot of terms I'm not sure what they mean - heel cap, rim, etc... What do tone bars actually look like? Things of this nature. I just want to become a bit more informed about the anatomy and physiology of the mandolin. Thanks!

The heel cap is over the heel of the neck where it joins the body on the back of the mandolin.
The rim is the sides of the mandolin body.

Some of your beginner playing books have the above diagram or something similar. If you want more detail get one of the books on mandolin building. The Mandolin Manual by John Toughton is one and Roger Siminoff has a book Constucting a Bluegrass Mandolin. Both talk about the internal structure, bracing, types of wood, etc. You read both of these books you'll have a very good understanding. You can also search the archives and links on mimf.com for discussions on building and pictoral guides.
