On Morning Edition this morning, the mother of Daniel Pearl (sorry for the misspelling in the post title), the journalist murdered by terrorists in Pakistan a few years ago, read a moving remembrance of her son as a musician. #She said he never went anywhere without his violin or mandolin. #I didn't realize Mr. Pearl was such an avid musician, and his mother spoke eloquently about how music helps us bring hope out of despair. #The piece ended with a riff being played on a mandolin. #I'm presuming it was a family recording of Pearl playing.
