I spoke to Nashville mandolin builder/luthier/instrument repair guy Sim Daley today and he asked me to let the list know that his PC is on the blink and he's been off email for several weeks. #If anyone out there has been trying get in touch with him via email, please check Sim's website for his phone number and give him a call. #Sim's site is www.simdaley.com

Sim also mentioned he's got one of his Classic f-style mandolins for sale. #You can see more info about his mandolins at www.simdaley.com. # He sold another he had at IBMA last week.

I've had a Daley standard model for nearly a year and am extremely happy with it.

Here are a couple of links to some short audio clips recorded using the Daley. #(my playing doesn't do the mandolin justice).

nice picking John, the mando sounds great, i have a SD A model on the way, Sim had it at IBMA with him, if i had the extra green i'd swap it for the F he has for sale. as your recording shows his mando's have that nice woody "twang" and good bass chop everybody is looking for.

Thanks Slim - you're gonna love the Daley. That recording was done when the mandolin was just a couple of weeks old. Its opened up quite a bit since the recording was done.

John,
As I have #5 of Sim's basic F-model, I wondered how many mandolins has he made. Do you happen to know? How did he figure out how to get such a great tone & volume out of an instrument?

Hi Jim,

Not sure how many Sim's built total. Mine was #9 and I he finished it last December. I know he's built a few more since then.

Sim worked for Gibson building mandolins and banjos and I believe had some chances to work on some old Gibsons and check them out closely.
