Hello all. Been playing a couple years now and feel just about ready to bring the mandolin out of the bedroom and brave the picking sessions. Only problem is that I can't seem to find any in the greater Manchester area.
I'm a pretty busy student but going along to a session one night a week would be great. Anyone out there? Bluegrass would be very cool but I don't think I'm in a position to be choosy.
Hope to hear from you! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There are, or at least there is one that I know. The person whose mandolincafe ID is mancmando is in Manchester. We hooked up in August, and he's in nice fellow, very friendly... Plays both guitar and mando.
You can find his mandolincafe info pagehere (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=Profile;CODE=03;MID=109-1068026911).
Now, a favour for a favour http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Do you know any London-based mando player?

Wish I could help you out! I know a guy in Lancaster, and one in Brum, but nobody in London I'm afraid. I'll ask a couple friends down there on the off chance they know somebody, or perhaps just try to get them to start playing themselves! There must be somebody.
Thanks for the lead, tho. I'll drop mancmando a line!

I'm not too far away -- I live in North Wales and work in Liverpool. However, I don't go to a regular session myself (there's one Halkyn, two miles from me, but they do bluegrass only, which is peripheral to my interests). There's a list of regular bluegrass sessions in the North West here (http://www.nwbn.freeserve.co.uk/nw-clubs.htm), which includes one in Prestwich and one in Mossley.

Excellent! I did chase up the prestwich one from the northwest bluegrass site but it had moved and now I know where. Thanks very much all + I'll contact you if I still can't figure something out with those leads.
Cheers!, Jeff(ers)

Hello Jeffers,
Would you be a Man. United or Man. City fan? Sorry, no mando content. I'm stateside and follow Premier League, but there is no one else around here who does.

Ok, here goes: Scottish Dad, US Mom, I grew up in Cleveland OH, moved to Scotland and am now at Manchester Uni. As such, the answer to your question is that I'm a Cleveland Indians fan (from a decade BEFORE they made it to the world series twice! (those darn Braves)).
I follow the footie a bit but the unspoken rules seem to be that you can't be a United fan if you actually live in Manchester, and you can't be a City fan unless you're blue collar Manchester born and bred. I've yet to find another team to identify with so don't get too into it. Pearls before swine you say! - Just make the most of the baseball coverage you've got over there!
Just to qualify this posting for this message board, mandolin mandolin mandolin! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hi, Wando, im a huge man city fan. Just letting you know that your not he only footie fan.
Hello, giverin! Good to hear from a Man. United fan. Being in the states in New Hampshire, I don't know anyone here who watches footie. It's lonely. I have a couple of MLS buddies, but no one to talk to about the Premiership. Bill Monroe (mando content). I'm really sorry I missed seeing Man. United beat Arsenal! Simon Mayor (more mando content). Anyway, my email address is wando03070@adelphia.net if you feel like being bombarded with questions about The Game. Do you play Man. United songs on your mando?
