Being new to the mandolin, and the "iffy" nature of inexpensive imports, I am considering building a mandolin. I built my dulcimer, so I am not ignorant to the time and patience it takes to do this. I'm just looking for a simple inexpensive kit, mid-missouri style (please no f-style or archtops). Does anybody have any thought on who has the best kits?

Don Kawalek, aka luthier here. I just received a mandola kit. Inexpensive and laid out so easy a monkey could follow the instruction and build it. John

Next competitor to Don would be the Campfire Mandolin Kit from Stewart MacDonald. It comes without hardware;(tuners, tailpiece etc.).

Both are good suggestions from what I've read, but what kind of music do you intend to play?

Oh I need to learn the instrument before I decide that, but I am mostly a country blues guitar player.
