Keith newell mermaid!

A band I play in had a CD release show/party at Cartwright's Music Repair in Stayton, Oregon today. When I got there Keith Newell was showing his new F-5 to Ken. Before they could get it put away I got to pick on it for a few minutes. A very nice box, Keith told me he makes everything but the tuners and the strings. Fit and finish is much better than my brand X, Bush. Very well balanced with amazingly mature tone for a two week old mandolin. First Newell I have played, I'm very impressed. Mermaid inlaid in the headstock, interesting.

As I had mentioned in another post about this mandolin, I too thought this was a fine instrument. I hope that Keith can develop consistency with all his mandolins. This one knocked me out and gave me a bad case of MAS. Had to come home and play my Collings MF-5 just to be sure I did, or didn't need another mandolin. But then, what does need have to do with another mandolin? Great job Keith! Kenc
