Greetings,

I am writing a song about a fictional Mandolin player who grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina. This player would have learned to play the mandolin from hearing Bill on the the Grand Ole Opry on the Radio.

Does this hold water ?

Could you get the Grand Ole Opry on the radio in Western NC in Bill's Era ?

Would you have heard a lot of Bill's music ?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I grew up in SW Va and in the mid-to-late 60's we listened to the opry. #That is roughly the same distance from Nashville as Western NC so it is feasible that it would have been picked up.

I listened to the Opry on Friday nights in suburban Boston for years just to pick up Bill Monroe's show. It was a regular weekly portion of the show. You could pick it up over most of the eastern part of the country.
Monroe recruited more Blue Grass Boys from the state of North Carolina than from any other state.
There are plenty of good mandolin players out here today!!!
