Hey folks, this is your chance! The Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog is out, along with thier "fantasty gifts" of the year. For only $25,000, you can be a special guest on the Grand Ole Opry. Here is the write-up from the catalog:

In Nashville, country has always been cool. Every Friday and Saturday night since 1925, the Grand Ole Opry has showcased the best live performances, while chronicling our national musical heritage. Now, for the first time ever, you can join country music royalty on stage during a live Opry broadcast.

Our exclusive package includes:
• Sit-in with the band live on the show.
• Music lesson with an Opry band member.
• Pre-show gourmet dinner for two in your dressing room.
• Gig co-hosting the Opry warm-up show live on 650 WSM-AM.
• Luxury accommodations for two at the Gaylord Opryland Resort.
• Customized matching his and her jackets designed by Manuel, the legendary creator of cowboy couture for Elvis and countless other music legends.
• A Takamine® acoustic guitar autographed by an array of Opry performers.
Now, how can I raise $25,000 between now and Christmas? Hmmm....

So for $25,000 you get to eat a great meal and probably lose it just berore you go on stage. You also have the opportunity to show everbody in the listening area plus those in attendance why you aren't a professional muscian to begin with and you get the rhinestone apparrel as a souviener of the event. Can I sub the guitar for a Mandolin?? But for $25k what do you expect? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I was going to ask if there was a lower price if you passed on the Takamine, but then noticed you only get to sit in with the house band. Do they turn your microphone on? I would like an outfit from Manuel, though. I guess I'll have to keep trying to earn my way (which isn't going to happen).

My wife hates this story, but I'll tell it: a few years ago, we were in Nashville when there was still an Opryland. One morning I was ready before everyone else, so I wandered over by the Ernest Tubb Record Shop, where I listened to a bluegrass band in the parking lot. I mentioned it to my wife when they met me for breakfast, and she said that they had an audition for one spot on the Midnight Jamboree. I said she should have told me, since I had a guitar with us on the trip. Without missing a beat, she said, "Don't bother - they're not ready for you yet." That cracked me up; her explanation (and she is a kind person) was that since Nashville only wants young guys who strut around in tee shirts, she was afraid I would would be crushed by the rejection and it would ruin our vacation. I just thought it would be cool to try out (secretly believing, of course, that I am exactly what they want).

Outside of paying $25,000, that's probably as close as I'll ever get.

WOW! I was getting into this until I broke it down:
1 lesson $100 (less if Porter Wagoner gives it)
1 Fancy Dinner for 2 $120 (tip not included and no liquor)
1 Night Opryland Hotel Deluxe Room suite $500
2 Jackets by Maunel $1200(with your name on it add $50)
1 Japan guitar $500, if signed by Opry Greats, $300
All the above can be had by your Master Charge Card
A night on stage at the Opry: PRICELESS!
Makes the MM look like a steal!

LOL! Good one, Tim!

But you know there are people, possibly people on the Cafe', that are on the Neiman site right now and are seriously considering it. I have been in workshops with people who showed up with two, count 'em two $25,000 mandolins and couldn't even play all that well. I have also known people who have paid more for fantasy experiences, including a flight in jet fighter and a trip to the South Pole. You know somebody is gonna do this!
