View Full Version : ID This Mike Marshal Clip?

I ran across this clip on YouTube this morning. It looks like it was shot with a cell phone, and the sound is marginal. I love this tune, and can't quite identify it. Mike's 'cello sounds amazing, even on the bad recording. Anybody know where I can find a good recording of this? I'd love to hear clearly how Mike is riffing around the bass-- that's a killer sound.
The tune is called Gator Strut, the title track off Mike's most excellent 1980 release, his first as a leader.

At the Mandolin Symposium we played this as a huge mandolin orchestra this year!

Thanks Art and Alan. I knew it was a standard of his, but the name wasn't popping out. That must be really something to hear that 'cello growl up close. Here's the clip embedded:

Edit to add: Mike must be able to break two-by-fours with his pinky. I can't imagine being able to fret so cleanly and fast with your pinky on a mandocello!

That Symposium clip was a hoot! It was great watching some of my mando heros standing up one by one to play a solo. Would have been nice with clearer sound but still fun to see.
