i kinda like the song... and i found tabs for it on mandolin cafe, but it just has plain notes and no rhythm. does anyone have tabs with the rhythm of the song (to know what's a quarter note or sixteenth note and all that)?

the session.org is a great resource for Irish tunes. This link leads to the sheet music, from which you should be able to pick up the timing. As I understand it you already have the notes from the tab. As I remember it there's also tab for stuff somewhere on this web site.

This is reminiscent of the time I was searching the Amazon downloads for Artie Shaw's version of Deep Purple and the first six pages of hits were for some rock and roll band playing Smoke On The Water. These kids today and their crazy far out music!

so actually the tabs on mandolin cafe dont really match up, idk if its just that i dont have the rythm or that they just come up with some random noodling on the version im hearing. but does anyone have anything at all?

watch this video of John Paul Jones playing it about a hundred times and you'll get the hang of it.

Plus you'll see that this song's beauty really lies in not playing it 'exact'. The tab on this site can get you the gist of it, but it's more fun to throw some of your own interpretation into it. Also, you can get a good start by playing the open chords in G as found on many other guitar tab sites.

At least that's been my approach to this song.

good luck

That young fellow did a nice job. Sounds a lot like the version from a tribute album (/http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1038622) I own. Vocals are handled there with the fiddle as well.

Still, thanks to merlopj for that Youtube link. I'm on viewing #3 now.
