A local music store has a Rigel mandolin that hasn't been played much on consignment. It is CT-110. I don't know anything about Rigel mandolins. They are asking $3500 but might take $3000. It just seems high to me but I really don't know. Anyone know much about these mandolins?

Rigel CT110s are exceptional instruments. Retail on a CT110 is $5495, but there seem to be plenty of used Rigels floating about. I think $3K is a fair price, provided it's in excellent condition and has a hardshell case. For more about Rigels, try the Web site:

I have one (although it's a custom, birds-eye maple deal) and it plays great, sounds great, and the amplified signal from the internal pickup sounds exactly like the mandolin.
Pete Langdell is a great guy to do business with, if anything goes wrong (I had a tuning peg break off, while it was traveling as checked luggage, in a Pegasus case).
I'd easily pay 3.5K+ for mine...
Inspired by, and named after one Chris Thile, back when he was a Rigel picker. I played one back then, very nice, well-made instrument.

Judge it by it's sound/tone/volume against others and then decide. Everything else is adjustable.

Anyone know the story behind the two ridges in the top? It seems to me they would act as a sort of tone bar... I wonder if they are strictly cosmetic, or if they add stiffening?
Lee,
Hit the link in Martin's post and get Pete's phone number .... he'll talk as long as you want. Loves to talk instruments.
Thanks again from Lynne for the Bridger OM!
