I like to practice with metronomes and I have a mechanical one and two electronics. They only go up to about 208 BPM. Now I know that it is rare to see music written for a faster tempo and I know you can always cut the tempo in half and double-count with foot taps for faster tempos. But sometimes I find it helpful when building up speed to double-time the metronome, especially when I am dealing with a lot of different note values. So if I want to learn a tune at 120, it would be helpful to me to have a 240 beat going. Does anyone know of a metronome model on the market that goes up to 240 or higher?

Johnny,

I don't know of one you can throw in the case, but the "weird metronome" will do any speed you type in. Easy install and its free.

Also, many drum machines can be set to perform a click track at a wide variety of tempos, but like Fuzzyway said you can't put it in your case.

Other software that will do it: TablEdit & also Chord Wizard
There are several programs available for handheld computers also - some freeware.

I think mine does, I will check it and repost the brand. PM if you don't see it as I may forget by then.

The Mundobeat programmable metronome can do up to 600 beats per minute. Available as hardware or software. www.vko.com. I've got one and though I frankly rarely use it these days, it is an impressive device.

This (http://www.braxtech.com/metrognome/) works pretty well, if you're a Mac user. #You can go up to 1500 bpm...
I like the fact that it has a visual read out, and you can set it for different time signatures- but it does "skip" on occasion when other applications are running. #It has it's uses

1500bpm is 25 beats/second. That must sound like automatic weapons fire from a helicopter gunship.

If you have a new mac you already have it in garageband. If you have a mac buy I life and garageband is included. John

Get yourself one of these (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/216294/) It's a tuner and a metronome. The metronome can not only be set to accent none, or every 2,3,4,5,6 or 7th beat. But it will also do 8th notes (doubling the speed) triplets (tripling the speed) and 16th notes (quadrupeling the speed). It will also do triplets with the middle not dropped (swing 8's) or 16th notes with the middle 2 dropped.

I really like mine.
