Hi Guys,
Now I know that this question has probably been asked before, but humour me please!
What is the most popular tuning for a cittern with a 24” scale length? I generally build instruments to the spec that clients give me and they come up with all sorts of tunings. I just want to know if I built a “standard” cittern, what tuning would be the most commonly accepted.
Cheers Gary.

I imagine that CCGGDDAAEE is a "standard". Individual players can then "drop" that to DDGGDDAADD etc...

Hmmm, I'm not sure there is a standard for those, like you say folks come up with all sorts of inventive mostly-open tunings.

DGDAD is the most common 10-string tuning at that scale, but as has been stated they tend to tuned to nearly everything between a low C and a high E.

Zookophiles soon learn that figuring out tunings and string gauges is a river they must learn to cross frequently, with bold resolve and a well-stocked string drawer :)

DGDAD, bass to treble. 24 inch is an awkward scale length though, neither fish nor fowl, so you'll have to put some mighty thick strings on the low D course to get it to sound, thicker than a guitar's low E string.
