Have an opportunity to pick up an Aria 900 ("C" I think) for about $500. Any thoughts? It sounded pretty sweet.

I am not an expert on the different models of the Aria products, but just because it is old does not translate to good. Each instrument has to be considered on its own. They are an oriental made product with poly finish and, just as any instrument, may have some important issues. You want to be sure the neck angle is good and that the frets and fingerboard are in good shape. You can very quickly spend more on making it playable than what you pay for the instrument. Again, there is no "vintage" market on those particular mandolins. For a similar amount of money or a bit more you can get some very nice options in modern mandolins made in the orient that are usually a better product. That being said, if you like the mandolin and it is in good shape it is not a large investment. If it speaks to you, go for it. If not, pass this one by and look for one that does.

That didn't work for me.
