Just found out that our band is going to be opening for Mountain Heart in October. Not sure how we landed it but I'm very excited yet more nervous than I've ever been anticipating a performance. We're doing a short set-one traditional and four originals. Wish us luck. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Wow! That should be fun! Have a great time and smile at everyone in the band, and everyone on their crew ... you never know when you might cross paths again, so best to leave a good impression with their whole organization.

Don't be nervous.

Forget the fact that there will be hundreds, possibly thousands of people watching every little move you make.

And half of them will be mandolin players.

Cheers!

You'll do fine. And that will make you anxious to play out again soon. If you don't do fine, that will make you even more anxious to play out again soon. Either way, you win!

I'm sure you'll do fine! In my early years of mando playing I was asked to fill out a country turned bluegrass group opening for Bill Monroe. Fortunately the banjo player who was also recruited was a friend so there was somewhat of a comfort level doing it. It was a high profile gig where we did a full set as the opening act. Many friends in the audience asked me how I was able to score such a good gig! The interesting thing was that Bill was sitting on a chair just around the corner as we played. I must admit to feeling a bit self conscious knowing he was back there. The coolest thing was that he came out and sang along on a gospel number with us (captured on tape!). The photo ops were cool too! I have to say that Bill was very gracious and seem willing to accomodate any of his fans despite his age, health and fatigue. I still get a thrill sharing a bill with my heroes. I can retreat to the security of my day job but these folks are out there day in and day out paying their dues.

Wow! That is pretty cool. I snuck back stage of a festival this summer and talked with them for a little bit. Really great guys. Good luck. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
