I know this dealer has a link on the classifieds page and was wondering if anyone would care to share their experience, positive or negative.
There are some mandolins I'm interested in, but would like to hear from previous customers of Madolin World Headquarters (http://www.vintagemandolin.com)
I have never bought, but have come close to buying from Charles Johnson (last minute private deal I couldn't refuse).
It was a pleasure all the way.
I have never heard a single word of complaint on this board regarding Charles Johnson's business.

There is a fairly extensive thread that's a few months old right here (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=12&t=16889) that should satisfy your question.

I - MOOSE - have had "extensive" transactions - both as a buyer and seller with Charles Johnson. I have found him to be most fair, honest(to the "T") when representing a mando or other instrument. Actually I've lost count of my "transactions' - I can remember buying my Horner mando from him... ; selling(outright) two(2) mandos(Webers!) AND 1 (one) archtop guitar(Heritage) - I recently purchased a GREAT sounding/playing flat-top from him. No financial intrerest here...- just a deserved "recommendation/reference". he is a great guy top notch.

Thanks to all for your responses, and the link to the previous thread (did a search, but came up empty).

I bought a guitar from him a few years back and more recently dickered with him a little bit on a mandolin that I ended up not trading for, but I would definitely recommend him to my friends. You can be sure that whatever he sells you, he will tell you the exact truth about before you buy it. A real straight shooter.

Charles is the man. He will not let buy an insturment just for a sale if it's not right for you. He's easy to do buisness with and is always willing to talk mandolins. He calls me a repete offender I've brought so many mandolins from him.

I bought/bartered mandolins with him a couple of years ago and would willingly do so again. I came away quite satisfied with the mandolin he traded me. I believe he came out of the deal quite well too, but that's as it should be.

Charles Johnson is trustworthy dealer and on top of that he is a nice guy and is easily accesable and willing to share a lot of his knowledge on mandolins.

I started the previous thread and thought I should follow up. The mandolin was exactly as described (actually better) and the transaction was handled swiftly and professionally. I would not hesitate to deal with Charles Johnson in the future. The only thing that would have made me happier is if I could have gotten out there physically to play all the other mandos he has! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I bought an 88 Flatiron A5 Artist from Charles a few years ago at a very fair price -- he said it was near mint and indeed it was! #It was a pleasure doing business with him and I certainly would have no hesitation in doing so again. #If you see something you like, go for it!

Therein lies the dilemma. He has so many mandolins that fit my price range, it's hard to make a choice.
But, I'm not complaining. Having too many mandolins to choose from is a great problem to have http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif .
