I just got off the phone with Andrew Mowry. A great guy to work with. He will be starting the instrument in about a month. We decided on walnut back and sides, engelmann spruce top, ebony fretboard, reddish back and sides, clear with a touch of yellow top. We went with f holes. The instrument should be done by November. Here is a link to his OM gallery http://mowrystrings.com/OMgallery.htm

Sweet! One of my dreams is an OM with a walnut back and cedar, or redwood top. I'm sure yours will be beautiful- because Andrew's building it!

Sounds like a great combination.

Wow. Maybe one of the best all time looking instruments. I want one. How large is it in comparison, to say, a tenor guitar, my latest affectation.

Isn't that pretty similar to the Octar you already have?

Lee, you are correct and that is why the Weber will be going on consignment soon to help pay for the new baby. Just to note, the Weber Octar I have is a great instrument and what led me to having one made. It is a bare bones model with no binding, but easy to play and has a great deep rich tone. It would be considered a Gallatin Model. I just got the inkling to get an instrument made with a different wood and I like the sound and look of walnut. Had I not decided to have the Mowry made, I would keep the Octar.

Tony,
looks like I will be in the same Mowry batch as you are. Will look forward to seeing photos of the siblings !

Pete, What are the specs of the mandolin you ordered?

Yeah, I'm curious about scale length. I'm playing mostly OM these days and would love a guitar shaped 20" scale with a cutaway. My OW is pretty awesome though. What's Andrew's wait time these days?

This puppy would work with a Johnny Smith floating pick-up

Tony, please order it with a cutaway then get tired of it and sell it to me :)

PJ, not a cutaway man. Don't think this baby will be going anywhere, any way.

I figured as much but I had to plant the seed ;)

We decided to go with the Art Deco headstock, much like on this A:

but rescaled to fit the OM. We went with the same black white binding as on the headstock for the rest of the OM. We went with F holes. Gotoh tuners.

Andrew is planning for a 21.5 inch scale neck. I forgot to add this and this was a question in an earlier post.

I am considering a graphic for the headstock of either a bear (my nickname) or dog (am a big dog lover). I loved the Dawg graphic on my DGM2 trus rod cover. I am getting really stoked by the thought of this instrument.
