Does any builder here have a pattern for the flowerpot and fern inlay? #I am going to get a tatoo next week and I need the outline of both so I can either decide on one or get them both on my forearms. #Please help a mando FREAK out!

I'd email the boys at Gibson. They just might help you out. I would think they would like those to catch on as tats. John

Look in the "Post a Picture of your Mandolin" forum, for the thread on Headstock Pictures. Lots of great close-ups there.

You may also find a luthier supply house that sells inlays. They usually post a picture of the inlay. An internet search may also bring you some ideas and pictures.

If you're serious about this, take the tuners off of both style mandolins and photocopy the pegheads on a regular ol' copier.

I was actually thinking of the outline of the headstock inlays that you see on F-5 building plans.
Are you sure about this? #What if, by administrative decree, Gibson moves its entire operation to some third world country, and your Bush develops a major problem and you can't get it taken care of in Nashville because they aren't there any more, and you end up having to get a BRW or a Brunkalla, and there you are, stuck with the evidence of the "ex" permanently engraved on your body. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I posted the laugh as a reply before but I was actually serious with the post. I can't help but think about HD. When you get a consumer base to put your logo, trademark, etc.. on your body permanently you've really made your mark. I can't see why Gibson would be adverse to this. Although I have been wrong before. John

I thought you were refering to the previous posts where independent makers could no longer put a flowerpot on their instruments because Gibson was protecting their copyright.

Gibson may get offended and feel you are starting a new gang

It's not going to say Gibson, it's just going to be either the flowerpot or fern inlay. I am still a Jeremy brand and you can distinguish that from 20 feet.

I'm actually still not 100% positive I am going to do it though.

Check out DePaule Supply. I don't have the shortcut handy, but do a search on the net and you will find them. They have the outlines for some of the inlays for those who want to cut out their own pieces. They are printable, so you can make the patterns any size you like.

Nevermind dudes, again I meant the tracing on the F-5 plans that shows both the flowerpot and fern inlay...not pictures of them, I have seen them on plans by Siminoff and the Luthier's Guild. I am not looking for a detailed example of the inlay, just the outer structure of either in a blueprint.

There was a case in Orlando a couple of years back vs a tattoo shop, and they had to stop doing Disney characters........
If your going to do it, do it right and get the MOP inlay!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I did Hogo. Thanks again. Those were the patterns I was looking for.
You should also have him tattoo lines on your left hand in such a way that when you make a fist, a scroll appears!
