The Summer School is offering a bouzouki class for the first time in a long, long while. Mick Broderick of the band Slide will be teaching the course, which runs for 2 hours a day Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday August 17 - 19. Mick's class description:

Mick Broderick has given numerous mandolin and bouzouki workshops at festivals and events in Ireland and across Europe with specific attention given to their role in accompaniment within Irish traditional music. These workshops include a multi faceted approach to musical accompaniment:

Listening to & discussing the various ways in which the most renowned bouzouki players approach accompaniment
Introducing & trying out these various styles.
Introducing approaches that might be useful in accompanying various types of tune, song, slow air.
Exploring ways in which the bouzouki/ mandolin can be used as a lead instrument.
Implementing strategies aimed at improving technique – from beginner to advanced.

Not only is it rare to find somebody else named Mick in Milwaukee, but even rarer to find another mandolin player in Milwaukee!

Sounds interesting and I might be there!

I've heard Slide on stage several times and have also heard Mick Broderick in sessions, so I can highly recommend his course!

Mick's style is original and his instrument, a fairly short-scale, arched-back Peter Abnett, is wonderful.

I hope I can be there!

Thanks, Dr. F!
