Hopefully this dosen't offend any purists out there, but I'm starting to get the Christmas music bug. Anyone out there have any good Christmas tabs, or know of a site with mandolin Christmas tabs? I especially like ones that are a bit slower and melodic (because I can't play too fast!), like "What Child Is This".
I know its early, but there must be some other Christmas nuts out there besides me!

Try this link and look under the seasonal category ....
http://www.mandozine.com/music/zipfiles.php
The files are in tabledit format so you will need that program to view them.
I know what you mean .... I'm already practicing my X-mas tunes as I go out carolling every X-mas Eve with my cheap mando and my kids singing around the neighborhood. Everyone looks forward to it, I even have people ask in July if we are doing "it" this year. It's great fun. Good luck.

I just bought evergreen christmas music for mandolin from sheetmusic plus.com About 10$ John
I've found that GDGD tuning is great for any christmas song. From silent night to good king wensceslas (sp?). My wife was calling out christmas tunes to me and challenging me to skeleton them up, and it was pretty intuitive. Plus, mistakes are a good thing with the drone. ('course they're all in the same key...).
Speaking of this particular tuning, I've been practicing the floating hand, no posting the pinky for a few months now, and this makes practice much more enjoyable. It's becoming more of a second nature now.

I have tabbed many, many Christmas songs for my own use and have Butch's "Evergreen" CD and book. My problem is with all the great Christmas music out there, it seems a shame to be limited to playing them "ONLY" in December. Heck, throw me out of the club, but I played "Silver Bells" in July and Mel's "The Christmas Song" last month.

gdae85 I don't know about the rest of the gang but I've seen flurries and have had several days over the last month below thirty at night. I got up this morning an it was just above 40. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Oh I say that year round also. John

Roland White has some excellent holiday music tabbed for guitar and mandolin with each song in two different keys (depending on your voice). I've found them to be great. Try his website.
Best,

In addition to the Roland White site, there are several in the tabedit files at Mandozine. The Simple Gift site has a beautiful version of Silent Night with lots of double stops. I usually wait too long and start trying to learn or re-learn Christmas songs in early December when I should have them polished. I usually get comfortable with them about January when it is time to put them away.

Hey, if Scott can post Christmas cards on the mandolincafe homepage, JSTRAIN can be thinking about Christmas music

If it's that cold in September it's time to start thinking about heading south! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

I could stand a verse and chorus of "Christmas Times a
Comin".

GVD that was the beginning of August. Doh! The flurries were only for a few minuets and they never touched the ground. The wind was just cold enough to freeze up some mist. Been whistling Christmas tunes ever-since. John
NME "Gifts" is a favorite, has a very jazzy 'Sleigh Ride' with killer mando solos by Aubrey Haynie and Richard Kriehn.

I bought some holiday music (for voice and piano - but my mighty brain can transpose it to mandolin) this Summer at the Christmas In July Sale at the local Minnonite Trift Store. So, ladies and gentlemen... I am prepared. Has anyone else noticed that the wild geese are beginning to congregate for their annual migration to the South earlier this year than usual? Hamster and the neighbour's cat have both developed fuller coats.... Yep! Winter's around the corner! Time to start my list. Let's see, Dear Santa Baby... I would like a Loar or a Rigel. A Gibson will do....

Santa Baby! I'm going to have that song with the squeaky voice going through my head for a month now. Too Funny. Yup and I've seen a lot of birds flocking up. John

Reesaber - Wow! I think I have to agree with GVD. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Yesterday it was in the upper 80s here, and we're pretty far north too, western New York.

sandcastlefaith, we've had warm days to but summer never really hit the Dakotas this year. Couple weeks of 80s less than a week of 90s. Eversince its been usually upper 30s to mid 40s in the am and mid 70s by noon. Gotta love it! Still got santa baby in my head.
jstrain I'd try some piano books for Christmas music also. Why not some violin Christmas books that should work shouldn't it? John 1130 and 70 isn't life grand!
