Does anyone know anything about what I heard is Sam Bush's first album - "Poor Richard's Almanac"? (pre NGR).
Vocals? Instrumentals? Fiddle and/or mandolin?
Its a classic, I think Sam was 17 or 18 years old at the time. Its all Instrumentals. With Fiddle and mandolin. Lots of great fiddle tunes and Alan Munde is awesoem too.

Outstanding music, but poor sound quality; recorded on an old reel-to-reel recorder in Sammy's backyard, I think. It was originally released on Loyd Wanzer's (a prominent old-time fiddler from Idaho) record label, American Heritage. I have a well-worn copy of this LP.

Good record- but I prefer "Sam and Alan Together Again" on Ridge Runner- some hell-A-cious mando playing!
Yes to Sam and Alan, terrific, ahead-of-the-curve stuff. And well written liner notes by a Dr. Henry Koon.

Poor Richards Almanac was recorded after Sam won the third of his National Junior Fiddle Championships and featured a lot of his Texas Style fiddlin. I think it is an important recording for anyone seriously studying Sams mandolin style as it shows the influence the Texas fiddlin has on his mandolin playing. It helped me to learn a lot of those fiddle versions to be able to play his mando style better. Plus there are some great tunes by Sam on there, The Other Side of Baker, and a couple others whose titles escape me.
I agree with all about "Together Again". I think it is Sams best instrumental playing. I hope somebody reissues it sometime.

I have heard Mark would like to release the two records he did on his own as an early teen, but cant get his record company (Sony Classical) to go along with it. They are not even listed on the discography on his web site.

MO has recordings on Rounder. Maybe he could
license Rounder Records to release them?
(I'm guessing he owns the rights the rights to the
2 recordings.)
I tracked down a copy of the Poor Richard's LP.
Its ok, as an example of Sam's early playing
Not really a "must have" IMO. Together Again is great though.
